Chronology of cameras Ernemann
Here is one of the scarcer camera of the Heag series .
Contrary to what its appearance might suggest , this is not a device that can contain a film: it uses only plates of size 4.5 x 6 cm.
The rounded appearance of the body comes from one of its features , it has two shutters , one central , with speeds ranging from one second to 1/100 and the other, of the focal plane type , giving speeds from 1/65 to 1/1000 .
This is the only existing small size (4.5 x 6 cm) device to have two shutters . This is what justifies its rarity , because what could be the interest for such a small camera with a fixed lens to provide two shutters ?
The Ernemann Heag XIV has been manufactured in three sizes : 8 x 10.5 cm ( 1908 to 1909) , 9 x 12 cm ( 1909 to 1922) and 4.5 x 6 cm ( 1911 to 1925).
The item presented here is a 4.5 x 6 and is the only one of the three formats to offer automatic action. It has a brilliant viewfinder in central position under the lens under which a lever is used to adjust the distance between 2 m and infinite.
The characteristics of the focal plane shutter (maximum speed 1/1000) allows to date the camera between 1918 and 1925.
